Why TB Screening Matters
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the world’s most deadly infectious diseases — yet it is completely curable and preventable.
In Sierra Leone and across many parts of Africa, TB continues to affect families, especially those living in overcrowded or low-resource settings.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO):
Over 10 million people develop TB each year.
TB is responsible for more than 1.5 million deaths annually.
In Sierra Leone, around 1 in 50 adults may be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and many cases go undiagnosed.
Early detection through screening and testing saves lives, prevents spread, and ensures access to free treatment through national TB control programmes.
MVF’s Mission
Mini’s Village Foundation is committed to:
Expanding community access to TB screening and diagnostic services
Supporting education and awareness on TB prevention
Ensuring linkage to care for all individuals who test positive
Reducing stigma and discrimination associated with TB and HIV
Through our mobile health outreach and rural clinic network, we bring TB testing closer to the people — especially women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Types of TB Tests Offered
Symptoms to Watch For
Cough lasting more than 3 weeks
Fever or night sweats
Chest pain or shortness of breath
Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
Coughing up blood or mucus
If you or someone you know has these symptoms, visit your nearest MVF community health point or government clinic for testing.
What Happens if You Test Positive
You will be linked to a nearby TB treatment centre.
Treatment is free of charge under the National TB Control Programme.
A health worker will guide you through your 6–9 month treatment plan, monitor your progress, and ensure you complete the full course.
Family members may also be screened for TB to prevent further spread.
Prevention Tips
Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Keep windows open for ventilation.
Eat a healthy diet to strengthen your immune system.
Get tested if you live with or have close contact with a TB patient.
People living with HIV should test for TB at least once a year.
